Eebbi Qulqulluu Sillaasee Isin Waliin Haa tahu!
Our church was officially established in 2022. Prior to its formal founding, a small group of devoted individuals began organizing under the name of the Holy Trinity as early as 2019. For an extended period, they gathered virtually via Zoom to pray and engage in the study of the Gospel in their native language, Afaan Oromo.
As the number of participants steadily increased, a collective agreement was reached to commence in-person gatherings every Sunday morning for worship services and gospel teachings.
In alignment with this development, a garage belonging to the Oromo Community in Portland was transformed into a place of worship. For over a year, regular worship services were conducted in this space, accompanied by rigorous study and teaching of the Word of God. At the time, there were no Orthodox churches in the state of Oregon or its surrounding areas offering spiritual services in Afaan Oromo. Consequently, many individuals who had distanced themselves from the church due to this linguistic barrier began to join the fellowship, resulting in significant membership growth.
Motivated by a profound longing to receive spiritual services in their native language, our members initiated efforts to bring in the Holy Ark (Tabot) of the Holy Trinity and to commence the Divine Liturgy (Qidase). This led to a unanimous decision to transition from a small prayer space to a formally leased church facility.
Through the encouragement and spiritual leadership of our founding priest, Messenger of Peace Father Yehualashet Besha, the Holy Ark (Tabot) of the Holy Trinity was blessed by Abba Ewostatewos, the Senior Bishop of the Minnesota Diocese and its surrounding regions at the time. By the grace of God, the ‘Tabot’ entered its rightful sanctuary. From that moment forward, the Holy Trinity Church began to flourish and expand, with the faithful gathering under its sacred covering.
